This demanding phase requires meticulous attention and human discernment that machines cannot replicate. For example, in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, thousands of young people must distinguish between seemingly insignificant objects in videos, ranging from pedestrians to palm trees, in order to improve autonomous driving systems. Young people are crammed into internet cafes, performing microtasks for a few cents, often below the local minimum wage.
