THE Cyber Defense Campus of the Federal Armaments Office armasuisse has published an Open Access study for the second time to highlight these risks. The objective of this study is to help experts and decision-makers in public administration and industry to assess risks and develop adequate security measures.
Impact of generative artificial intelligence on cybersecurity

The development and diffusion of**artificial intelligence** (AI) pose major challenges for security in cyberspace. More particularly, the models of machine learning used to generate texts, images and videos, known asGenerative AI, become more and more powerful. Although widely used by the general public, these technologies present significant risks of misuse, such as Deep Fakes, false information and attempted fraud.
The influence of large language models on cybersecurity

The handling and misuse of machine learning algorithms can compromise the security of the AI applications used. For example, models of large language models (LLM) may generate text or software containing subtle errors that are difficult to detect. These models have revolutionized language understanding and are already used in security-related products and applications. However, bad actors can also use them to create malware, phishing messages, and malicious chatbots cheaply.
Strengthening cybersecurity
The majority of LLMs are currently manufactured overseas. It is therefore crucial for state actors like Switzerland to understand the dependencies on these foreign manufacturers and the associated risks. This Open Access study offers valuable insights for cybersecurity experts and decision-makers. Thanks to a collaboration between the Cyber-Defense Campus and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO), it is possible to cope with rapid technological developments and take proactive measures.

This campus is part of the Federal Armaments Office armasuisse within the DDPS.
