In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, the dissemination of videos manipulated by artificial intelligence has become a powerful disinformation tool. These videos, generated by advanced AI such as Sora, purport to show scenes of mass surrender of Ukrainian soldiers and are widely shared on social media. Behind these fabricated testimonies lies a desire to sow doubt and discredit Ukraine on the international stage, using visually convincing but artificially created content. Videos produced using artificial intelligence are circulating widely on social media, claiming to show Ukrainian soldiers surrendering en masse or expressing regret at having been sent to the front. This content, falsely attributed to Ukrainian soldiers, is part of an active disinformation campaign aimed at undermining morale and discrediting Ukraine\u2019s resistance efforts. This phenomenon raises significant questions about the impact of automated content generation technologies in the context of international conflicts. The Spread of Manipulated Videos The use of artificial intelligence tools to generate manipulated videos in the context of the conflict in Ukraine draws attention to the spread of misinformation. Content such as images showing \u00ab\u00a0Ukrainian soldiers crying\u00a0\u00bb or \u00ab\u00a0in a surrender position\u00a0\u00bb has gone viral, accumulating hundreds of thousands, even millions, of views on platforms like Facebook and X.<\/strong> The Technology Behind the Videos Artificial Intelligence<\/strong> The software used to create these videos comes from an application called Sora, developed by OpenAI, already known for ChatGPT. Although Sora is not available in France, it is used by many users to create videos with an authentic appearance. The tool\u2019s name sometimes appears as a watermark on the videos, indicating the digital origin of these creations. Deconstructing the false narratives<\/strong> The Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation is working to debunk the lies contained in these videos. For example, a supposed 23-year-old soldier appearing in tears could not, in reality, be subject to compulsory conscription, as the minimum age for mobilization is 25. Only volunteers between the ages of 22 and 23 are authorized to serve. Furthermore, it has emerged that the face of this imposter is that of a Russian citizen known on the internet.<\/p>\n\n

The Spread and Consequences of Manipulated Videos<\/strong> A popular TikTok account, since suspended, widely disseminated these videos, producing up to 85 similar ones, all bearing the Sora logo. Recently, an AI-generated video showed a supposed Brazilian soldier expressing regret for his deployment to Ukraine. Anomalies, such as an excessive number of teeth, revealed the manipulation.<\/p>\n\n

The Ukrainian Counter-Disinformation Center emphasizes the objective of these videos: to create distrust within Ukrainian society, complicate mobilization efforts, and damage Ukraine\u2019s reputation on the international stage.
