Their goal is to create a European champion capable of competing on the global artificial intelligence stage. Mistral AI engineers have developed seven language processing models using advanced techniques and powerful computing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\nFinancing strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n
The first round of financing, in June 2023, raised 105 million euros. A second round in December added 385 million euros, bringing the start-up\u2019s valuation to 2 billion euros. The success of these fundraising events was facilitated by the growing interest in applications of artificial intelligence and the technical prowess of the Mistral AI team.<\/p>\n\n\n
World-renowned investors<\/h2>\n\n\n
The latest financing round attracted considerable investment from US investment funds such as General Catalyst, Lightspeed and Andreessen Horowitz, as well as European investors (Bertelsmann Investment, BpiFrance, Eurazeo, BNP Paribas) and industrialists (Cisco , IBM, Nvidia, Salesforce). In addition, emblematic figures such as former Secretary of State C\u00e9dric O and Xavier Niel have also invested individually.<\/p>\n\n\n
Effective use of funds<\/h2>\n\n\n
So far, Mistral AI has used around 20-30 million euros to develop its language processing models. This investment was mainly used to finance the computing resources needed to train the models. The start-up uses around 1,000 high-end graphics chips, like those sold by Nvidia, the American leader in AI.<\/p>\n\n\n
Expansion and future goals<\/h2>\n\n\n
The new funds will allow Mistral AI to increase its computing capacity and support its research and development. It also attracts talented engineers eager to work with cutting-edge technological resources. With its current 60 employees, Mistral AI plans to expand its sales team in France as well as the United Kingdom and the United States, where it has just opened an office on the west coast.<\/p>\n\n\n
