Furthermore, certain social media platforms, with few regulations in force, have contributed to amplifying the spread of these rumors.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Origins and clarifications of the video<\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The origin of these images comes from RIA Novosti, the official Russian news agency, which was covering a visit by Putin to the AI \u200b\u200bJourney conference in Moscow. A video taken at the event showed Putin with German Gref, president of Sberbank, which Russian bank has developed its own AI technology. An employee commented on the analysis of an AI, improperly attributed to Google, on photos of American astronauts on the Moon. Putin simply described this information as \u00ab\u00a0interesting\u00a0\u00bb without endorsing the said assertions. Additionally, no Google representatives were present and the company officially denied organizing or participating in such a demonstration.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The questionable reliability of AI on historical images<\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using AI to judge the authenticity of old images remains controversial, as current AI tools focus more on detecting anomalies in modern, high-resolution images. As Tina Nikoukhah, a researcher at ENS Paris-Saclay, explains, the algorithms are not necessarily suited to examining historical photographs, making any conclusions about the authenticity of such documents very uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultural impact of conspiracy rumors<\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These claims about the first human steps on the Moon, dating back to 1969, are among the historical events frequently disputed by conspiracy theorists. The impact is particularly marked on younger generations, for whom social networks, such as TikTok, have become a main source of information. Faced with this, the first contents suggested by the algorithms tend to fuel and reinforce the conspiracy theory.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion and appeal to readers<\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important for users of social networks to exercise critical thinking and seek reliable sources of information. The spread of false information or unfounded theories can have significant consequences on public perception of historical events.
