Orientation and Parcoursup: the decisive support of private guides
Personalized support: a solution to the complexity of Parcoursup
Faced with the complexity and density of the offer on Parcoursup, young people at the end of their secondary education seek the expertise of specialized coaches to refine their orientation. These professionals offer a tailor-made service, offering an informed outside perspective and support in formulating orientation wishes.
Adapted services for tailor-made help
An approach that is often more in-depth than the traditional support provided in educational establishments, where an interview can be limited to a quarter of an hour. Ormella Bachet, a final year student, has a richer and more detailed experience than with her school guidance counselor. For two support sessions, the price can reach 390 euros, a significant sum for personalized advice.
Variable but sometimes high costs
The private support market is very diverse, with offers of up to 890 euros for the creation of three registration files. Coaches, some of whose networks have up to 40 members, offer help in selecting wishes and writing cover letters, claiming to guarantee better results.
The challenge of guidance in the education system
“We cannot expect guidance counselors to provide such personalized support, which can be offered in a private setting”, explains Anne-Claudine Oller, expert in educational sciences. Indeed, a guidance counselor is often responsible for following an average of 1,600 students, a ratio which highlights the saturation of public guidance services and the difficulty in offering individualized follow-up.
Shedding light on orientation needs
This situation highlights the need for careful guidance for the 600,000 annual applicants who are faced with the vast selection of 21,000 training courses listed on Parcoursup. It also raises the question of equitable access to guidance, conditioned by the financial capacity to turn to private services.
